Homecoming For Hometown Filmmaker-Labor Of Love

Between Unbelievable Loss And Unconditional Love
There Is joy!

Hamilton native Julie Marie Hassett is no stranger to adventure. She has traveled a long way from the halls of Badin high school to the halls of justice as a district attorney. Now that long road is bringing her home. Hassett, now a Los Angeles based actress and writer is coming home to shoot her first film. Hassett will wear the hats of actress, writer and producer of this independent project. It will be the first for her production company, Red love Film.

Hassett who has received accolades on the west coast for her work with plays such as The Vagina Monologues feels a particular pressure to get this movie just right. It is much more than the butterflies mixed with excitement many young filmmakers experience. This project has a true heart, one born in her Hamilton home. Hassett was first inspired to write the screenplay for joy after the untimely death of her father, Robert Hassett. Julie and her sisters Elizabeth Joy Weitz and Sarah Jones felt compelled to work on the screenplay as a tribute to their dad. Just last summer the sisters were basking in praise as they began shopping the screenplay around to producers. That is when the unbelievable happened. Elizabeth Joy suddenly died of complications related to her pregnancy. Two family tragedies might have put this project on the shelf, but not for Hassett. She and her sister Sarah were urged by family, friends and colleagues to "spread the joy" with this inspiring and offbeat tale, where words matter more than special effects, and relationships matter more than things.

That focus makes this film unique in more ways than one. A Co-Producer of the film is Foundation of Joy, a non-profit 501(c)3 that was started in her sister's memory. The focus of Foundation of Joy is joining kids with adults through adoption and mentoring programs. Part of the profits for this film will go to that program. Hassett and Jones feel there could be no greater tribute to their father and sister than to "spread the joy" to others.

Filming will begin July 21, much of it taking place in Butler County.
