Independent Film Offers Local Eateries a Chance to be a STAR
Los Angeles based actress and filmmaker Julie Marie Hassett will be coming home to shoot her independent project "joy." The film will begin production in Butler County on July 21, 2007. The film will feature a mostly LA based cast with local roots, all coming home to help friend Hassett and her sister Sarah Jones, with a labor of love. The screenplay was completed a year ago, written by Hassett with production assistance from her sisters Elizabeth Joy Weitz and Sarah Jones. The sisters were inspired to work on the story after the untimely death of their father. Just last year the pair were showing their finished script to producers when Elizabeth Joy died from complications related to her pregnancy.
Hassett and Jones first thought of shelving what they thought would be a very painful project. They were then urged by family, friends, and colleagues to tell the story on film, and now some of those same people are pitching in to "spread the joy" and bring the movie to the big screen. In turn, part of the profits from this film will be donated to a local charity that was established in Elizabeth Joy's memory. It is aptly names, Foundation of Joy, a 501(c)3 that will provide programs for children through adoption and mentoring.
Local eateries are now being invited to join in and be a part of the film. The Screen Actors Guild sanctions the movie, so it requires regular craft services and meals for all of the actors and crew. Local restaurants can volunteer to provide catering for a day and can then be a part of a pivotal festival scene to take place July 28. The movie Rainman has brought endless publicity and fans to Pompillio's. It is hoped local eateries will want to get their chance at movie celebrity but offering up some sandwiches.
